Bauhütte
LogDesignBuild Project
2023 –
This collaborative project explores the inclusion of logging into design – that is, embedding processes of sourcing, selecting, and harvesting into an architectural studio with our partners from forestry and building engineering. It explores material capacities and flexible behavior of different species as an active partner and design driver, integrating experimental testing of greenwood bending, reversible connections and full-scale construction. The Bauhütte takes roundwood from Rohstoff to Werkstoff and thereby challenges dominant industrial norms. The resulting demonstrator is continuously monitored for material behavior while spanning the experimental outside workshop area as an evolving platform for speculative building research.
