This research-led thesis project explores hybrid applications of hardwood as a renewable building material in response to the need for a sustainable transformation of the construction sector. Framing sustainability as a strategic approach to using existing resources, it investigates underutilized deciduous wood from climate-resilient forestry not merely as residual biomass but as a driver of sustainable material culture and architectural experimentation.
Through experimental design, digital fabrication, and full-scale prototyping, LaubHybrid challenges industrial norms of standardization and contributes transferable knowledge toward alternative and more resilient hybrid timber construction systems.
