SPENI KinderUni Brücken schlagen
Science Communication Workshop Series
2023 –
As part of our second workshop with Kinder-Uni Erfurt in our series Schwach aber Stark, we chose the topic of Brücken schlagen. Developed together with our collaborators from Kita Mittelhäuser Spatzen, we joined in an open and playful format to explore fundamental principles of design by building small bridge structures from reeds and willow harvested by our regional partners. Direct engagement with material and simple construction techniques enabled intuitive encounters with questions of stability, scale, and load distribution — an accessible but genuinely architectural entry into structural thinking with low-diameter timber. With a clear focus on growing technological literacy, this series addresses young learners as a future generation of designers, engineers, and researchers. Warmest thanks to all participating tutors and teachers — and above all to the children for building with us.
